Striking a balance between IT security and sustainability – the key to successful trade-in programmes

It’s a year since businesses across the globe shifted to models of working from home (WFH) and as we start to take tentative steps towards a post-pandemic world, debates around the pros and cons of remote working show little sign of abating.

For small and medium sized businesses (SMBs) in particular, it has proven impossible to ignore that a single office location containing 10, 15, 20 or more computers is quite different to all staff being in their own ‘office’.  10 ‘offices’ each with a computer is an infinitely bigger challenge than one office with 10 computers and, consequently, asset register management, device replacement and securing data, has become far more complex.

Of course, with a year’s experience dealing with remote workforces, many SMBs will have (we hope!) by now successfully tackled routine IT security and management of their overall asset register.  They may not yet, however, have needed to deal with rolling out an upgrade across the firm’s IT provision.

Today is “Global Recycling Day” (yup, it came as a surprise to me too!) so what better time to consider how you’ll upgrade your IT kit whilst keeping data secure AND acting in an environmentally responsible manner?

Redundant devices are often left to gather dust in an office cupboard and whilst a single cupboard in the company HQ is one thing, the reality nowadays is that redundant devices could be located across multiple sites.

The answer is to choose a reputable trade-in scheme where you’re assured of the safe and secure disposal of old devices.  But how do you know that the scheme is indeed safe and secure?

You should look for a programme where a carefully chosen partner, an expert in IT asset disposal, manages the entire process from packaging up the old devices; their removal and transportation to a secure centre; CESG-compliant data wiping and all aspects of reporting and tracking throughout.

Consenna works with numerous vendors and Channel partners to deliver successful trade-in programmes that not only tick the security and sustainability boxes, but which importantly maximise existing asset value that can be used as an incentive when investing in new kit.

So, if you’re an IT vendor or one of their Channel partners and believe that a trade-in programme could be of interest, get in touch![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
